Bright Eyes

People often ask what makes a health dog. The simple answer is the signs are everywhere.

We love being close to our four-legged friends and they need your care and attention. When your dog is used to being handled, they are easier to be around and looked after. Grooming helps makes dogs more sociable and easier to treat at the vets. They are also safer companions – which is why grooming is an excellent way to build confidence in your pet. While you’re thinking about it, here’s a few checks you can do at home.

Nose
Should be wet or damp to the touch

Ears
Should be free from discharge & smells. If ears smell of pear drops contact your vet

Feet
We want nice smooth pads and all claws intact. Lookout for splits and cracks

Teeth
Should be firm and clean. Try pressing down firmly on a tooth and release – the gum colour should pop back to pink

Bottom
Free from unusually bad smells and any discharge

Eyes
Have a look to see if they are bright & clear

Skin
Check for redness, cracking, baldness, sores and abrasions.

Above all else, please be vigilant. If you spot anything unusual or a change in behaviour talk to your vet.
